چکیده

Inconsistency handling in expressive description logics is an important problem because inconsistency may naturally occur in an open world. In this paper, we first present the quasi-classical semantics for description logic SHIQ, which is based on quasi-classical logic. We show that this semantics can be used to deal with inconsistency and that it is reduced to the standard semantics when there is no inconsistency. Compared with the existing four-valued semantics for description logics, it strengthens the reasoning capability in the sense that it can satisfy some important inference rules, such as Modus Ponens. Finally, we analyze the computational complexity of consistency checking based on the quasiclassical semantics.

Paraconsistent Reasoning for Expressive and Tractable Description Logics

Four-valued description logic has been proposed to reason with description logic based inconsistent knowledge bases, mainly ALC. This approach has a distinct advantage that it can be implemented by invoking classical reasoners to keep the same complexity as classical semantics. In this paper, we further study how to extend the four-valued semantics to more expressive description logics, such as...

Infinitely Valued Gödel Semantics for Expressive Description Logics

Fuzzy Description Logics (FDLs) combine classical Description Logics with the semantics of Fuzzy Logics in order to represent and reason with vague knowledge. Most FDLs using truth values from the interval [0, 1] have been shown to be undecidable in the presence of a negation constructor and general concept inclusions. One exception are those FDLs whose semantics is based on the infinitely valu...

A Comparison of Paraconsistent Description Logics

Description logics (DLs) are a family of logic-based knowledge representation formalisms with a number of computer science applications. DLs are especially well-known to be valuable for obtaining logical foundations of web ontology languages (e.g., W3C’s ontology language OWL). Paraconsistent (or inconsistency-tolerant) description logics (PDLs) have been studied to cope with inconsistencies wh...

Finite Model Reasoning in DL-Lite

The semantics of OWL-DL and its subclasses are based on the classical semantics of first-order logic, in which the interpretation domain may be an infinite set. This constitutes a serious expressive limitation for such ontology languages, since, in many real application scenarios for the Semantic Web, the domain of interest is actually finite, although the exact cardinality of the domain is unk...

Fuzzy Description Logics and t-norm based fuzzy logics

Description Logics (DLs) are knowledge representation languages built on the basis of classical logic. DLs allow the creation of knowledge bases and provide ways to reason on the contents of these bases. Fuzzy Description Logics (FDLs) are natural extensions of DLs for dealing with vague concepts, commonly present in real applications. Hájek proposed to deal with FDLs taking as basis t-norm bas...
